ALL ABOUT BEAD WAR

What's the point of Bead War?
The real point is to promote handmade lampwork beads in a fun way.

Why a war?
Have you seen Kitten War, or any of the many "cuteness wars" on the web? They're hugely popular. We felt handmade lampwork beads deserved their own (admittedly silly) viewers' choice page. It's kind of a competition. But not a serious one. We hope you enjoy it.

Why upload images of lampwork beads to Bead War?
On Bead War, people get to see your lampwork bead creations in a fun context. If you enter a web address on the form, people will see a link to your site after they vote.

What should I upload?
Upload a Jpeg image of a handmade lampwork bead (only Jpegs will work here). Your image will be resized to fit a space 250 pixels wide by 250 pixels tall (so a square or squarish image will work best).

Are images seen by the public immediate after I upload
No! We check all images first to make sure they are appropriate.

How many images can I upload
We recommend that you don't upload more than 5. As people upload we hope to provide a few images from many bead makers. (Over time we may remove older beads to keep the site fresh.)

What are the the terms and conditions?
By uploading a bead image you agree to the following:
  • Once you upload the image we can show it (or not show it) on Bead Wars at our complete discretion.
  • You agree not to bug us to show your images or delete your images. (We're doing this on a shoestring people. There aren't that many hours in the day.)
  • You agree that you will only upload images for which you own the copyright.

Do you accept advertising?
If the site becomes popular then... maybe. We'll see.

Will this site be online for a long time?
No firm promises but... very likely yes. However it may change over time (if we think of ways to make it work better).

Who created Bead War and why?
The designer/coder is a web developer who happens to be the partner of beadmaker Laurie Wright. As of now (May 2009) Laurie's beads are the only ones that appear on this site - but only because other people haven't uploaded any images yet. We're both hoping other bead makers start uploading images soon. If this happens, we think this site will (in a small way) help to promote lampworking in general to a wider public.

That's about it! If you like it... tell your friends about it!
